spherical shell

inspired by the sydney opera house, the project explores how tectonic geometry can be prefabricated from a repetitive geometry. the form of the sculpture evolved through various iterations, from hyperbolic to finally trapezoidal panels deriving the final form of the shell. a single repeated trapezoidal panel sweeps along a complex loop, producing the final topological geometry.

the outer skin is made expressively of folded copper panels. they are digitally fabricated and folded, giving the sculpture a sharp tectonic form. the copper panels formulate a striking contrast to the inner wood layer. the varied size and angle folds create a constant changing threshold arousing curiosity, yet never really revealing its contents.
